Dearest readers,
It has recently come to our attention that we have been counter-blogged by someone under the impression that Fracis Martell '09 is the head honcho here at Gossip Geek, Inc. We are not in the business of outing our writers, but we cannot confirm that this is true. We can deny it, and we will do so.
We believe this is an appropriate time to reiterate some important parts of our policy and point out some new developments for the site. Let's begin with the latter.
GossipGeek does not negotiate with terrorists. Thus, we will not shut down- far from it. We do understand, however, the concern of having parents and potential employers find our jokes and not understanding that this is a satirical site whose only goals are to entertain and to point out some notable people on campus we find interesting/attractive/whatever. To this end, we have removed ourselves from public listings and Google will no longer crawl us- there will be no more fear of having Google lead your family to our not-suitable-for-parents website. The site will stay up, but you'll have to know our URL to find us. This should set poor Derek Flanzraich '10 (we're the first hit when you Google him) at ease.
We are also always on the lookout for tips and are very open to some of you taking stabs at writing posts. If you're good enough, we'll make you one of our writers! Think we're not covering a significant part of campus? Let us know: gossipgeek@gmail.com
We would also like to reiterate a very important part of our policy: we pick our subjects for a number of different reasons, and although many are friends, we sometimes pick people randomly. If you are uncomfortable with something posted about you, contacting us is the best way to go. You can ask anyone who has contacted us (or who have contacted others who have relayed the message): we will take stuff down if it a) concerns you and b) you ask cordially. We are not doing this to hurt anyone- on the contrary, we want to make people smile in a sort of uncomfortable way. Ask and ye shall receive.
As we near 30,000 hits, it's a bit saddening that we still have to be explaining our mission. But at least it gives us a chance to explain, modify, and move on in an endeavor that will last well past our tenures here at Harvard.
