Dear UC Bigwigs: Welcome to the Blogosphere!

It was merely less than a year ago when beloved, doe-eyed UC icons Matt Sundquist '09 and Randall Sarafa '09 took their rightful positions as leaders of the free wor- er, the biggest and least significant student body on campus. We didn't exist back then, but if we did, we would've hated them. Why? Because they wanted change. They wanted reform. They wanted to actually accomplish things. Look at the innocent creatures here, being all idealistic and shit at their inauguration:Almost a year and basically anywhere between zero and 0.3 accomplishments later, we're feeling affectionate and nostalgic for them. Sure, they didn't actually, um... do anything, but no one was really expecting them to anyway. In their term though, the 20-year process that is Calendar Reform was sealed, and, um, something happened with the Core Curriculum, and Girltalk is coming! Also, they didn't actively screw us over in any way- Matt Sundquist did not at any time give impassioned communist speeches in front of our administration (big improvement from Ryan Petersen '08), nor did Randall Sarafa get caught embezzling thousands of dollars for his private jet/escort company (time will only tell if that rumor is true!). So here's to one year of nearly-competent UC administration, a rare event indeed.

We're glad to see the pair- along with campaign manager Mel McGowan '09, Sundquist protege Dylan Matthews '12, Dems superstar Markus Kolic '09, among others- entering a respectable business for a change, and doing so with gusto- blogging. In case you haven't heard, Universal Waste, the new UC blog, is here to take over where Team Zebra so gallantly left off. Team Zebra was a masterpiece of a UC blog covering the election of Ryan Petersen and Matt Sundquist with its highlights (everything by Victor Alcalde '07, including "Matt Sundquist is a Pimp- discuss") and lowlights (ex-HRC president Stephen Dewey '07? really?). Universal Waste is... working with what it's got, which is to say not much. This peace by Sarafa with (gasp!) pictures is of particular note, mostly because of the self-deprecating UC humor we didn't think any of them capable of.

While we wait for the real news to start pouring in and the events to pile up, we want to give a hearty welcome to our new peers and thank them for "Getting the joke" that is the UC, so to speak. We give Universal Waste our seal of approval (though we disapprove of the color scheme- beige, really?) and wish them luck on their maiden voyage!
