The Sailor Moon Blocking Group Part Deux: The Plot Thickens

Yesterday we began a series on an enterprising brigade of young leaders that all happened to block together and may or may not have a profound impact on next year's UC race. We have decided to adopt the highly salient Sailor Moon analogy to accurately assess their respective strengths and weaknesses. This is part 2 of three million.

Caleb Weatherl '10 Power Position: President of the Harvard Republicans, IOP Personality
Pres Probs: Low Veep Probs: Medium (come-from-behind) Campaign Ubiquity Probs: Mildly High

Smart, but quiet; quick-thinking, but light-footed. Caleb may not be a bookworm premed like Sailor Mercury, but he's got the same style when it comes to playing politics, and he certainly understands the "speak softly but carry a big stick" concept that this water goddess has employed throughout the seasons. His obvious big stick, of course, is the HRC's endorsement, which has sentenced those awarded it utter and embarrassing defeat for the past seven years. Most notorious among those punished was the John Voith/Tara Gadgil '07 ticket, which thought that it could be slick by being both pro- and anti-gay, and thus was both endorsed and repudiated by the HRC and BGLTSA. Caleb has the power to stamp any individual ticket with certain defeat, and that's no small power, but the real question is- will he stamp an even more certain scarlet letter of defeat on a team by actually running as Veep? Or will it be possible, given the uber-liberals out there on the ticket, to turn a complete failure of a campaign into definite victory by the magic of political balance? If certain Veeps-turned-Presidents can convince an entire campus of their hyper-liberality despite obviously being a Southern conservative sometime-member-of-the-HRC, anything can happen, right?

Too lazy to write up two profiles today- stay tuned for the latest!
