Flores-Boswell UC Speculation

The campus has been abuzz with UC speculation ever since the defined "very liberal" Andrea Flores '10 announced her pick for VP, "conservative" David W. Boswell '10. Is Flores trying to do the unthinkable and gain endorsements from both the Harvard Dems and the HRC? Historically, the choice of the Dems has always won (think Sundquist-SaROFL and Petersen-Sundquist), and the candidates the HRC chooses are doomed to bitter election misery (Willey-Snow and… who even remembers the guys who lost to Petersen? I don't.)

Naturally, the HRC would support fellow conservative DBos, who hails from the land of everything Republican (cowboy hats, country music, guns). But is that enough to overcome Andrea's "very liberal" agenda? Sure! HRC has endorsed liberal candidates in the past, such as Roy T. Willey '09, who, "while a Democrat, is a reliable conservative in the best understanding of the term" (C. Bruno Lacaria, 2007) – that is to say, "rich and Anglo-Saxon" (Martel, 2007). Though we don't know if Andrea is "rich" (though if she isn't, she soon will be thanks to massive wealth redistribution!), we do know that she is not "Anglo-Saxon", which might be a deal breaker for her.

But Andrea is a woman! And don't all Republicans think that a woman's place is in the house? WRONG! Republicans love women – just look at their unwavering support for Sarah Palin because of her intellectual charm and stellar command of international politics (or, because she's super hawt?) And last year, the HRC elected a female majority on its executive board for like, the first time ever. So it looks like the Republicans love women… between her and Texas-loving Boswell, they're sure to get the HRC endorsement!

But what about those pesky Dems? They haven't always loved the idea of women in power… look at poor Hillary. But certainly Andrea's love of everything blue and unwavering support of Barack Obama get her some brownie points ("special brownie points" anyone? They're decriminalized!). Also, with a minority headed to the White House, certainly the Dems would want to support Andrea's quest to change history as well – she would be the first Hispanic woman elected to the UC presidency! But alas, Boswell's love of everything Republican might be too much for the Dems to handle.

Will the Flores-Boswell ticket do the impossible and earn endorsements from the Dems and the Rupublicans? Only time will tell… but in the meantime, stay tuned to gossipgeek.blogspot.com for continuing election coverage!
