You all know "that" blocking group- those sophomore fellas who each, in their own little way, runs this university (to the ground? depends)? The ones that had the UC (US?) presidency clinched until their resident political gay decided to peace out to Amsterdam? There's something a bit superhero-ish about the lot, in a very Sailor Moon way, each their own flavor of power, charm, good looks and all-around savoir faire. In fact, in looking at their respective UC prospects, it would behoove us to continue the Sailor Moon metaphor in analyzing their future moves on the political scene. What follows is an in-depth analysis of those remain, the first in an ?-part series on the respective RPG strengths and weaknesses of the group.
Derek Flanzraich '10
Power position: Founder of On Harvard Time, only legitimate Harvard news sourcePres probs: low
Veep probs: low
Campaign ubiquity probs: very high
Derek Flanzraich '10 was
our first gossip story, our first major fan, and our first love. He was there to correctly identify us as
"your mother" when the speculation as to our identity was highest, to
lie to us about naked pics once it was GG high tide, and has generally been a friend to our enterprise despite the fickle nature of gossip news (well, look at where the unfortunate soul has landed now- an article about the UC presidency). And thus, we've got to make him our favorite,
Sailor Mars. The witty psychic of the bunch with just enough of a temper to get things done, Sailor Moon is a natural-born leader, but not in a traditionally political sense. She's there to call Sailor Moon an idiot when need be, and enrich the crime-fighting process by fixing the things that are not really her responsibility to fix- she's really just supposed to tell the story. And as much as we would have loved Sailor Mars to be the leader of the bunch, and Derek Flanzraich as leader of the UC, it just makes a lot more sense for them to fix things from the sidelines and nonchalantly ridicule everyone in the process.
Nworah Ayogu '10
Power position: President of the Harvard FoundationPresidential probs: low
Veep probs: high
Campaign ubiquity probs: medium
Nworah Ayogu '10 couldn't be anyone but
Sailor Moon. A talkative, social limelight lover bubbling with charm and positive energy, it's hard not to love Nworah outside of the political scene. We here at GG were sad that he has so far from our spotlight for so long, and that we didn't have anything salacious talk about regarding him for so long. It appears we lucked out this campaign season. And it's hard not to love Sailor Moon, too, outside of the whole crimefighting thing, with her bubbly personality and strong grasp of friendship. It's only when it comes to actual, you know, job-doing where things go downhill. Nworah's been an amazing Foundation Pres- even putting together a media panel of Harvard's most offensive journalists and a plethora of other controversially awesome things- but his experience in the UC is inversely controversial to that of the Foundation stuff. Ayogu has been noted to mistakely vote by proxy and delay UC meetings for hours, and thanks to JTSV he has had little time post-freshman year to refresh his memory. We would prefer him as Veep rather than pres, and campaign manager rather than anything else. A mastermind of political backroom conspiracy, he'd be a great man to have behind you, but we're a little cloudy as to his reign as pres or veep.
